Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  Is there space available?

A.  We have availability for the current term.  Please send us a message through our secure contact form for more information, or you can enroll by filing up and returning the application form.

Q.  May I come and visit?

A.  Absolutely! Please call our Admissions Office to make an appointment for a tour or to attend a scheduled open house.

Q.  What is the tuition?

A.  The tuition at each level is different. Please refer to the Tuition and Fee page for the tuition and fee schedule.

Q.  How many children can be in a class?

A.  AMS/ AMI recommend a class size between 25 and 30 children. Our communities never exceed the upper limit. Usually a qualified teacher with AMS/ AMI training guides each class along with the help of a co-teacher /assistant.

Toddler classes typically have up to 12 students in a classroom with a lead teacher and one assistant teacher.

Q.  Is this a year round program?

A.  We follow McKinney ISD school calendar. We offer 9½ month program beginning end August and continuing through early June.

Q.  Can my child come three days a week?

A.  In our community, children do best with a regular schedule that they can predict. Therefore, all of our programs are full, 5-day programs. Half Day Program is available for students 3 years and younger.

Q.  Do you have a kindergarten program?

A.  Classes at Centennial Montessori Academy are in a three-year cycle in order to best follow the child’s development. The traditional ‘kindergarten’ would be the vitally important third and final year of the Primary Classroom (age 3-6 years). The following year would be the first year of the Early Elementary cycle.

Q.  What's the best age to start a child in Montessori?

A.  In the Primary Classroom, 2½ to 3½ years of age and in the Toddler program, between 18 and 24 months.

Q.  How hard is it to transition a child from Montessori to a traditional school program?

A.  Our children do best remaining in the Montessori program for as long as possible.  However, the characteristics and skills that your children develop in a Montessori community will stay with them for life and will carry them into a new environment with strength of character and confidence.
